Increase Access to Affordable Health Care for all Vermonters
9.8% (47,000) of Vermonters do not have health insurance coverage, including 2.9% of the state’s children (up to age 18).
While this is low compared to the national uninsured rate of 15.7%, our goal is universal coverage for all citizens.
As an initial target, the Health Care Affordability Act of 2006 set a goal of achieving a 96% insured rate by 2011 – an increase of 36,000 covered lives.
To accomplish this goal, the health care reform includes strategies to:
- Enhance Private Insurance
- Provide assistance with affordability of health insurance
- Conduct comprehensive outreach and enrollment to inform Vermonters about insurance options
